Things that Cause a Depression
Depression often occurs when precipitated by some of the following factors:
1. Loss of a parent, spouse, or friend
2. Intense or chronic partner relationship problems
3. A divorce or separation
4. Conflicts on the job
5. Job loss or even job success
6. A midlife age crisis
7. A hormonal imbalance
8. Genetic factors inherited from depressed family members
9. Pregnancy or postpartum experience
10. Children leaving the home
11. Retirement
12. Prolonged or critical illness
It is important to note that initially you can identify the causes of depression. However, as your life progresses and many episodes occur, you may not be able to identify what has led to this round of depressed feelings. Overtime the brain loses its resilience and may slip in depression without recognizable causes. This is why early treatment is so important.
