What Makes The “Time Out” Protocol Work In Relationships?

What Makes The “Time Out” Protocol Work In Relationships?

When your partner calls a time out, you may feel that he is just trying to avoid the issue and will never get back to resolving the issue or hearing what you feel.

You will find time outs work simply because, only when your heart is not racing and the adrenalin has not kicked in, will you be able to listen and creatively brainstorm.

By saying, “I love you and I see this is meaningful to you” you affirm the secure bond between you.  You are saying we will work to keep that safe.

This allows your partner to self-soothe rather than worry that you don’t care.  Take some time to do the same.
